Course Description- The purpose of the American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies course is to provide the citizen responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

 Each student will gain basic knowledge in First Aid and CPR skills, including the use of AED necessary in an emergency situation to help sustain life for the victim.

 

Each student will have beginning skills to aid victims of illness and injury in a situation of need by the victim.

 

Students will have understanding of the EMS system and how to activate the system in time of emergency.

 

Course Materials- No book- all information will provided in class.

 

CLASS PRESENTATION

The class lecture materials will be presented in person. During class time there will be labs of skills completed.

 

 ATTENDANCE

  • After 3 absences- if the absences are unexcused this could result in being dropped from the class.
  • Late work will have a 5% point reduction
  • A missed test must be made up the within one week of test day.

89-80%-B

79-70%-C

69-60%-D

59%-BELOW-F

 

 

 

 

 

TYPES OF EVALUATION

Quizzes- 20 to 40 points in value 

Exams- You will have 2 exams during the Class-each exam is worth 100 points

You will take a CPR certification exam and a First Aid certification exam.  Exams will be giving in class.

Week 2- Before Giving Care

Week 3-Human Body

Week 5- Checking the Victim

Week 7- Breathing Emergencies- Cardiac Emergencies/AED

Week 8- CPR/AED certification test

Week 9 or 10- Bleeding/Shock

Week 10- Soft Tissue

Week 12- Musculoskeletal Injury

Week 14-Sudden Illness

Final Exam- First Aid Certification test-
