HED 200-Principles of Health
Course Description: Credit: 3 Semester Hours
This course is designed to explore the most important health issues current and past. It will assist students to make responsible decisions that will affect them through out their life. The focus will be on interrelating behavior with one’s own health decisions.
Course Objectives
- Baselines of Health and Well-Being - The student will understand the differences between health, stress, disease, wellness, and how to implement practical guidelines through a journal to improve their lifestyle.
- Preventing Major Threats to Well-Being - The student will be able to identify the major health objectives of the nation for the year 2020 as they relate to cardio- vascular disease, cancer, and communicable diseases.
- Minimizing Negative Health - The student will be able to identify and understand the impact of negative risks factors and move to a more figurative place of responsibility towards the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Enhancing Positive Health - The student will learn how to enhance their health/wellness by developing a wellness plan to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Course Requirements:
Students are expected to access the online environment approximately 6-8 hours per week. The student must be an active participant each week and submit assignments on a regular basis to avoid the possibility of being dropped from the class roster. This course will be using Canvas. Please view the Canvas tutorial to become familiar with the online setting.
You will be expected to submit online discussions, assignments, and quizzes by the due date. Student must submit the final exam/assignments before the end of the course. Late assignments will result in a five point deduction each day until submitted. After 3 days, the assignment will not be accepted and a zero will be recorded.
Student must understand and abide by the academic integrity policy in the student handbook. Plagiarism will be dealt with regarding college policies. Refer to the Student handbook. Make sure your answers are in your own words.
The student must be discrete and use a filter that is appropriate and conducive to a classroom setting. Respect each others opinion. Proofread for correct spelling and grammar. Do not use texting abbreviations. End your response with your name. See Netiquette Guidelines.
If the student cannot complete the course, they must follow the proper procedures in IRIS to withdraw from the course.
