Students will study abnormal, diseased physiological processes, examine cell functions, injury and death. Students will gain knowledge in body systems and inability of diseased systems to maintain homeostasis.  Other topics include inflammation, immunity, neoplasia, adaptations to stress and aging.

The student will be able to:

Compare and contrast processes of inflammation and immunity.

Identify major communicable diseases, risk factors, symptoms, complications, and treatment options.

Explain major infections and inflammatory integument diseases, pathology, risk factors, symptoms, complications and treatment options.

Outline the different components of blood. Contract the pathology of white blood cells, red blood cell and platelet disorders.

Explain major infectious and inflammatory pulmonary diseases, pathology, risk factors, symptoms, complications, and treatment options.

 According to the Lake Land College student handbook, “No student shall submit to an instructor as his/her own, any work which contains ideas or materials taken from another without full acknowledgement of the author and the source.” Should a student choose to violate this policy in written or verbal work in this course, the instructor may give the student a reduced or failing grade for the assignment and has the option of informing the Vice President for Student Services. Other academic sanctions, such as disenrollment from the course or academic program or disciplinary penalties such as reprimand, probation, suspension, or dismissal, may be imposed. If a student disputes the allegation, a hearing will be provided by the Vice President for Academic Services. Please read the full section about Academic Integrity in the Student Handbook. Lake Land College is committed to the fundamental values of preserving academic integrity as defined in this policy. Lake Land College may contract with an electronic service to detect originality of materials submitted by students. By registering for courses offered at Lake Land College, students consent that all assignments are subject to submission for textural originality reviewed by an electronic service. Assignments submitted to an electronic source may be included in the services restricted database solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism.

*All late assignments, those turned in after the due date and time- Will be worth half credit of the points earned for the assignment. All late assignments must be turned in the Sunday night before finals week or you will receive ZERO credit on late work.

 

***Please contact me if an emergency is keeping you from completing assignments and/or tests. I cannot make suitable arrangements for you unless I know this needs to happen. Do not feel like you have to tell me everything, just be sure I am aware that something is preventing you from active participation.

It is the student’s responsibility to understand when they need to consider dropping/withdrawing from a course. Refer to the Lake Land College website for dates and deadlines. Instructors may withdraw a student from class if the number of absences is detrimental to the student’s ability to meet the course objectives. Instructors can withdraw students from a course prior to five instructional days before the first day of the final exam period.

The responsibility for canceling classes or closing for a specific period of time rests with the President of the College. When weather conditions prevent the opening of the College or cause a delayed opening of the College, announcements will be made on local radio and TV stations, and with text messaging, email and all other technology mediums available by 6:00 a.m. for that day.

Cancellation of day classes is not an automatic closing of evening sessions. The decision to close classes that begin at 5:00 p.m. or later will be made close to 2:00 p.m. as possible.
