Course Information 

Description 

The purpose of this course is to learn the basic theory of Computer‑Aided Drafting and Design (CAD) and to learn how to operate a CAD system. 

Credit Hours 

2 ECH, 1 hrs LECTURE, 2 hrs LAB

Course Materials 

Lab work will be required to complete all assignments.  Not all assignments will be completed in class. 

Book: applying AutoCAD 2012 

Purchase a USB Flashdrive to backup your drawings.  also save all work to Lakeland U:drive 

For Online work access to a Windows PC online is required. 

 

Learning Outcomes 

  • Understand how to use absolute, relative and polar coordinate entry methods in a CAD drawing 
  • Learn the purpose of Draw commands and how to use them. 
  • Learn the purpose of Modify commands and how to use them. 
  • Learn to dimension a drawing and the purpose of the most common dimensioning commands. 
  • Learn to reuse drawing objects and to transfer them from one drawing to another using the Block, Wblock and Insert commands.

A PDF file is available on Canvas for each assignment, you may print them out or read them from the second monitor.  The technique to create each drawing will be demonstrated in class and/or available via zoom videos located on your CANVAS page 

Due dates are on Canvas, drawings turned in late will be given partial credit. 

All drawings will be turned in on “A” size paper or submitted on Canvas 

You will be responsible to save your drawings on your own USB Drive and your U: drive and may be collected to aid in grading. 

 

Instructor Classroom Policies 

CLASSROOM RULES 

  1. accessing the internet during class time is prohibited except for class projects. 
  1.  Phone Use = Your phone will only be used outside of the confines of the classroom. If you feel it necessary to be on your phone, without asking for permission first, LEAVE the classroom until you are finished and then come back.   
  1. Food, Drink and Tobacco use is prohibited in the classroom. 
  1. headphones and earbuds are not allowed.  I will give you my full attention, please give me yours. 

 

Attendance

  • Assignments may either be penalized or rejected if turned in late. 
  • Tests and quizzes must be completed by the due date to be considered for a grade unless previous arrangements have been made. 
  • Students who do not attend class during the first 10 days of the academic semester will be withdrawn from the course. 
  • I reserve the right to withdraw students from the course who do not attend class regularly. 
  • For example, but not limited to: 
  • You are allowed a maximum of 4 absences for this class. This includes excused absences. 
  • Upon receiving your 5th absence, you will receive a grade of F for the class.  
  • Any exceptions to this rule (such as extended illness) will be decided by the instructor and on an individual basis after reviewing a written petition. 
  • The petition form can be obtained from student services. 
  • Each unexcused absence will also lower your final grade. 
  • Canvas Homework assignments and quiz’s will still be due at the scheduled day/time even if excused absence occurred. 
  • If you leave a lab or lecture without notifying the instructor, you will be counted as an unexcused absence. 
  • After the 3rd event of being late for class, each tardy (being late) moving forward will be counted as an absence. 
  • Excused Absences = any absence where the student notifies the instructor at least 20 min prior to class beginning. 

 College Policies 

Academic Integrity and Student Code of Conduct 

At Lake Land College, it is assumed that students will honor the tradition of academic honesty. As such, students have the responsibility to be fully knowledgeable of the Academic Integrity Code, produce their own work, and encourage academic honesty among their fellow students.  

Students who engage in academic dishonesty in this course, will receive a grade of zero on the assignment] and an Academic Integrity Incident report will be submitted to the Vice President for Student Services for further disciplinary action; those disciplinary actions are outlined in the Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures.

AI Use Only with Specific Permission 

Students may use artificial intelligence or machine learning tools (e.g., Grammarly, Microsoft Word) for proofreading writing assignments, such as checking spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Any other use of AI—like generating, solving, outlining, or drafting assignments—is only allowed if the assignment specifically permits it. Examples of prohibited uses include using AI to write essays, solve math problems, take quizzes/tests or create discussion posts. All work must be completed independently, without unauthorized assistance from others or automated tools unless otherwise specified. Misuse of AI is considered cheating and will result in disciplinary action under Academic Integrity Board Policy 07.28.02. 

 Responsible Use of Classroom Content 

Class discussions, papers, pictures, video, and any other student-created work for a course are all considered official course content. Student work, including papers, discussions, quizzes, assignments, etc., must be confined to the classroom (either on-campus or virtual) and should not be shared outside the classroom without the express permission of the student who created it. Students should respect the privacy of person-to-person or person-to-class communication in all forms. Violating student privacy may result in removal from the course. Significant or repeated violations may result in disciplinary action. This standard is pursuant to Board Policies 07.28.01 (Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures) and 11.15 (Acceptable Technology Use). 

Board policy 07.21, Credit Hour, describes how credit hours are assigned to courses and the work required to award the credit.

Information Systems and Services is located in Virgil Learning Resource Center/Library (See Maps for directions) in the lower level. ISS welcomes walk-in campus support Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm during the spring and fall semesters. During the summer, the college is open from Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
